20.06.24: Krossobanen is temporarily closed due to maintenance. Check the website for more information.
Northern Europe’s first cable car was built in 1928 as a gift from Norsk Hydro to the inhabitants of Rjukan, so that they could get up in the sun during the winter. Krossobanen is the Nordic region’s oldest and most original two-lane railway that is still in regular traffic.
The course consists of a blue (Blueberry) and a red (Cranberry) that alternates between going up and down. It is located 1 km west of Rjukan city center. At the lower station (Krosso) is a large, free car park. From here, passengers are transported to 886 m.o.h (Gvepseborg) in just five minutes.
